Sensei Carl Davis, Jr.

Sensei Carl A. Davis Jr. was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky at the Army Hospital on post. Throughout his childhood, Sensei Davis idolized such martial arts stars as Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris and wanted very much to receive martial arts instruction. He grew up playing sports like soccer and football in the state of California, but never had the opportunity to train in the martial arts.  Due to a conflict with his Father, he was not allowed to train until he was older.

It wasn’t until the age of 15 when Sensei Davis finally had the opportunity, with the help of his mother. Under the careful guidance of Grandmaster Stanford McNeal Sr., he became successful in the world of Martial Arts. His first karate competition was held in Cape Girardeau,Missouri at the City Of Roses Championship. There, he astonished judges with techniques unheard of for a white belt. He took first place performing “Kifaru” and came within a point of taking grand champion, losing to a purple belt weapons finalist.

Under the instruction of Dr. McNeal, he trained religiously in the art of Kifaru-Jitsu which is an eclectic system . He attended numerous other karate tournaments in both Missouri and Illinois, taking many other awards and honors. Sensei has attended numerous Kifaru seminars and has received instruction from such masters as Donnie Williams, Steve Mohammed, Sultan Uddin, Tadashi Yamashita, Robert Temple and Stephanie (McNeal) Gordon. At one such seminar in 1999, Davis was promoted to 1st kyu brown belt.

Sensei Davis currently operates his dojo in the projects in Columbia, Missouri
